Filling words in your crossword

Selecting a word

Select a word by clicking the word in the grid. You can also navigate words by using the arrow keys, or the tab key.

Toggling orientation

If you've selected an across word, but actually wanted a down word (or vice versa), click a second time in the highlighted square to switch from across to down words. You can also use the spacebar to change orientation.

Completing a word

Once a word is selected, click the "Complete Word" button.

The results will be displayed to the right:

Each word completion will have the word number and direction (11D in this example) and the number of possible completions in the header.

Inserting a word completion

To insert a word completion into your grid, simply click on that completion.

Filter results as crossword changes

In the above examples, you may have noticed a checkbox that says, "Filter results as crossword changes". If this box is selected, the word completions are filtered down on the basis of any additional letters entered into the grid.

The example, let's consider the above case where we are completing 11D, but also trying to complete 21A. If I was to select the completion "LENDL", 21A would begin "CD__" and only have one potential completion, but if I select "LABEL", 21A would have "CE__" and therefore 25 options. If I have the "Filter..." checkbox selected, the word completions will update accordingly.

If the "Filter..." box is unchecked, the word completions will always contain the available words at the time you requested the completion. For example, 21D would always contain words matching "C___", even after you inserted a word in 11D.
